In 1956, under the direction of Robin M. Williams and John Dean, 427 women were interviewed about family and non-family roles, their health activities, and attitudes on various issues. All the women lived in upstate New York. Thirty years later, Phyllis Moen and Donna Dempster McClain located and interviewed 313 of these women.
